New Business

            Members introduced themselves.

Tonia Neal and Elaine Holloway were voted in as new Parent Representatives.

Mike Gallagher gave a brief update on the 9th Grade Campus, now being called Freshman Campus.  The core team met for an intense retreat in August.  The plan is to open on time with a projected enrollment of 900 students (capacity.)

Corrine discussed the new District-wide method for preparing the Continuous Improvement Plan.  A CIP Core Team of teachers has been developed.  They have been working on Phase 1, “Assessing Readiness,” since August.  Vanessa Logue and Sandy Grace are both on the CIP Team with Corrine and they will keep School Council updated on what is happening.

Corrine handed out copies of the Operating Norms that the staff came up with as a replacement to the current “Code of Cooperation.”  She asked for comments or suggestions to be e-mailed to her as soon as possible.  There was discussion on whether the School Council wanted to adopt something similar.  Sandie will e-mail the “Code of Cooperation” to members to review and the issue will be brought back to the next meeting.

Marianne discussed the Site Council Self-Assessment Survey that was previously distributed and how the results would be reported to the District.  It was agreed that surveys would be collected and Marianne would compile the data.  The results will be brought back to the next meeting.

Nancy reported that the 8th grade team is looking at ways to alert students and parents about Spring Forum earlier in order to give them more time to prepare.  They are also looking at two field trips.

 Special Needs

Tracey Thompson represented Special Needs for Vanessa Logue.  She reported that the department is working closely with the district to get more curriculum materials to better serve the needs of individual students.  They are working on putting together a checklist to help the process for placing and moving students.

PTSA Report

Fundraising at Pre-Registration did very well.  Membership is at 698.  There are 34 staff members.  The membership fee for staff was reduced to $7.00.  The PTSA approved funds to provide subs for Science teachers to be able to attend the National Science Conference in November.

District Liaison Report

Hester reported on the Healthy Youth Survey that will be administered to 6th and 8th graders.  It is voluntary and anonymous.  Information is available on the District web site.  There is a new “Parent Info” icon on the District web site.

Community Center

Cathy Jones shared that 350 middle school students were served in Adventure Camp during the summer.  They will be hiring a new person to be in charge of the Drop-In Youth Center to replace Ross.  The Issaquah Youth Advisory Board had their first meeting last week.  Last Friday, September 17, was 6th Grade Night at the Community.  Approximately 160 6th graders attended.  September 24 will be the first evening dance.  They expect close to 700 students and are still looking for parent chaperones.  Photo ID will be required to enter – no exceptions.
