OLD BUSINESS

School Council discussed the proposed changes to the Pre-Arranged Absence Form.  Changes will be made and the form will be brought back to the next School Council for approval.

The draft of the District Civility Policy was discussed.  David Kappler reported that the 7th grade team would like it included in the student handbook, the maroon book and given to parents in the pre-registration packets for them to sign.  Marilyn Luckman suggested giving it to the PTSA to be put in their parent handbook.

Birthday balloons were discussed and it was agreed that next year no balloons would be allowed.  Those brought in would remain in the office until after school.

Neva Luke and Leslie Nielsen discussed the NWIFTL Site Visit on May 15.  Staff from a variety of subject areas made presentations to the NWIFTL committee.  A draft summary was handed out which included thoughts and recommendations for next year.

NEW BUSINESS

The revised field Trip Request to Principal was handed out with recommended changes made.  Teams Leaders were asked to share this new two-sided form with their teams.  Please let Sandie know as soon as possible if any other changes need to be made.

Ann Perkins asked for clarification on having Lifetouch take Spring Photos.  She is concerned over the interruption to first period and wondered why this was not approved through School Council.  Marilyn  clarified that it did go through School Council several years ago and agreed to as a money making event to help fund the additional time needed for a Tech Specialist.  She said that she would look into another way to call students out with less interruption.

Ann presented a proposal from ASB to change the last two days of school.  June 21 would be a Carnival and Yearbook signing day with students going to 1st period for attendance and being dismissed around 8:15 to the Carnival.  Students are dismissed at 10:50.  June 22 8th grade students would have a social/yearbook signing with music while 6th and 7th grade students would attend very shortened six periods.  At approximately 9:15 students would go to the end of the year assembly and be dismissed at 9:55.  This was approved by School Council.  Please note that this is a change from what was approved at the last School Council meeting. It was also agreed to change the schedule for Wednesday, June 20 to a PM Assembly Schedule with classes going to their SLC class during the assembly period and then being called down to pick up their yearbooks.  The video yearbook could be shown at this time.

Kathy Miyauchi went over the process for hiring the new principal.  May 25 is the deadline for applications – there are nine now.  First level interviews will be held on May 31.  Megan C. asked if student input would be considered and Kathy indicated that they would like to consider this through ASB in the future.  Additional thoughts and input from staff or parents can be e-mailed to Kathy at miyauchik@issaquah.wednet.edu.

ASB Report

Megan reported that ASB is looking into purchasing an enlarger, approximate cost is $3,000.  ASB would like teams to discuss and let them know if staff would use this enlarger for posters, banners, etc.  Some issues were cost of paper and ink, space, and how much it would be used.  Team Leaders are asked to discuss and bring feedback to the next School Council.

Friday, May 25 is an AM Assembly for ASB speeches and elections for 2001-02.

Facilities Update – John Macartney

John discussed energy use and the rising costs.  The District is looking at an energy program for next year.  He encouraged everyone to conserve energy – turn out lights – turn off computers at the end of the day.

Additional Parent Comments

Mardi Nystrom suggested using Student Feedback from Spring Forum for next year’s Spring Forum.  Leah Van Eenwyk will collect all the feedback and pass it along to the parent committee.

Mardi also brought up the issue of new students and how they are included at IMS.  She wondered if ASB has a program for this.

FYI – Marilyn Luckman

Marilyn shared the proposed Grade Level and Subject Area Teams for next year.

Marilyn discussed some changes and plans for the Special Needs program for next year.  Cindy Streck will be giving Team Leaders a summary and asking for feedback.

Interviews were held for three Humanities and two Math/Science teachers and the teams  have recommended hiring five candidates.  Personnel is making the final calls and we should know the status of these hires soon.

A handout giving information on the Certificated Substitute situation was given to Team Leaders to be shared with teams.  It is important to note that when the district started using non-certified subs, the number of classes without subs decreased dramatically.

The Year End Calendar was handed out and changes noted.

Team Leaders were given information to share with their teams “Turn Your World Into Gold.”

Staff Party – June 1 – starting at 4:00 – at Marilyn’s House!!!

Other

Pat Decker reported that there is a concern among staff that too many hall passes are being issued.  Students are “hanging out” in the halls and not going where they are supposed to be going.  John will do an announcement.
