OLD BUSINESS

John Macartney went over the results of the IEA vote that was taken on May 2 on the Learning Improvement Calendar for next year.  The Calendar was defeated by a vote of 87% No and 13% Yes.

John reminded staff that there are to be no additions to the Final May/June Calendar.  Team leaders were asked to review the calendar with their teams.

NEW BUSINESS

The Pre-Arranged Absence Request Form was given to team leaders and John asked that they discuss this with their teams and bring feedback to the next School Council meeting for improvements.

John also handed out copies of the Civility Policy draft from the District and asked Team Leaders to review and discuss in teams and bring feedback to the next School Council meeting.

The proposed change to the schedule for the last week of school was approved by the School Council.  Thursday, June 21will be SLC and the End of the Year Assembly with students being dismissed at 10:50. Friday, June 22 will be the Yearbook Signing and Social with students being dismissed at 9:55.  This is a switch from previous years due to the availability of the D.J.

John presented the End of the Year Collection of Textbooks, Fines, Locks, and Grade Reporting Dates.  It was agreed to change the distribution of yearbooks to 6th period on Wednesday, June 20.  There will be a special schedule that day with no SLC and that time being added to 6th period in order to get all the books distributed.  The remainder of the dates were approved by School Council.

ASB Report

Megan C. reported that ASB elections are coming up – there is a meeting May 4 for candidate information, will be doing both IMS and IHS together.  Applications are due May 11, campaigning may begin only after applications are turned in.  Teacher recommendation forms should be returned to Ann Perkins, not given back to the student.  The election assembly will be Friday May 25th in the morning.  ASB will be doing various things for Staff Appreciation Week, such as “look alike” staff on doors and windows and in the halls.  Wednesday May 16 is an afternoon recognition assembly.  Activity Day is Friday May 18.

Team Reports

6th Grade

Neva Luke reported that the sixth grade team is concerned with the number of balloons, stuffed animals, flowers, etc. that students are receiving for birthdays.  It was agreed that a policy needs to be put into place to either limit the number or to ban them altogether.  Team leaders were asked to get recommendations from their teams and bring feedback to the next School Council meeting.

The sixth grade team is also concerned about the number of evenings 6th grade staff are asked to present information to the 5th grade parents – two evenings at the elementary schools and one evening at IMS.  They feel they are giving out the same information and would like to have this re-evaluated to either cut out one of the evenings or pay teachers for their time.  It was suggested that teachers not attend the Parent Nights at the elementary schools and only Administrators and Counselors attend and the staff would be at the 5th Grade Curriculum Night at IMS only.  John agreed to look into this.
