NEW BUSINESS

Our Continuous Improvement Plan is due November 15.  Ron Thiele asked team leaders to discuss our current Continuous Improvement Plan with teams and give him any corrections, additions, etc. as soon as possible.  He indicated that we would be adding a technology component.

Leslie Nielsen and Neva Luke will be available to staff on November 1.  They can provide assessment data for each class.  All teachers are encouraged to meet with them during their prep period.

The proposal for the Learning Improvement Calendar was presented at the last staff meeting.  Ron looked into some of the questions that came up.  Currently we have four half days for grading.  The proposal folds one of those days into the late arrival and there would also be a partial impact on W.A.C. time. The district is still looking at Wednesdays to be the late arrival day.  The district is also looking at getting feedback from teachers already using this calendar.  Itinerant teachers may meet together in subject areas at a district level.  Ron reported that the staff liked the idea of a late arrival versus an early dismissal.

Ron reported that he would like to form a committee to look at re-structuring our School Council to be more in line with district expectations.  He will send an e-mail to staff asking for volunteers.

ASB Report

Megan C. reported that ASB would like students to wear Halloween costume “accessories” only on October 31 and that the school dress code would still apply.

She said that ASB would be doing something different during the Veteran’s Day assembly on November 7 other than a regular AM Assembly.  Also, they will be sending home paper “hands” for students to put names of those in their family who had or have served in the military and their branch of service.  These “hands” will be posted around school.

Megan also reported that the Pledge for Peach March in Seattle was very positive.  They are looking at what they can do here at IMS with what they learned.

Team Reports

6th Grade

The sixth grade team would like to open negotiations with Ron about the time spent for fifth grade orientations.

7th Grade

No Report

8th Grade

Leah reported that the eighth grade team has voted not to have Skip Rowland this year and they are looking at alternatives that wouldn’t pull kids out of class so much.

Parent Comments

Nancy Campi reported that the Student Directory should be out the end of next week.  She also indicated that the PTSA still wants something done about the “Locker/Backpacks” issue.  It was suggested that a committee be formed to look at this.  Nancy said she could find a couple parents, Ron will ask for staff volunteers and Megan will try to find a student from each grade level to serve on this committee.

There was discussion on effective communications with parents and different ideas to improve communications.

Nancy indicated that parents would like a chance to hear more about the Proposed Learning Improvement Calendar and Ron said that the district would be scheduling community forums.

FYI – Ron Thiele

Staff was reminded that Monday, October 29 is Learning Improvement Day at Skyline High School and that there will be a follow up Love and Logic Training for parents at IHS that evening from 7 to 9:00 p.m.  Ron also reported that Administrators from the district would be meeting with Kevin Ferguson on October 29 to discuss safety procedures.

The IMS Musical performance of “Starmites” will be in the IMS Commons on November 9 10, 16, and 17 at 7:00 p.m. with a Matinee on Saturday, November 17 at 2:00.  All staff are encouraged to attend.
