Middle School Council Minutes
December 13,
2001
Chairperson: Sandy Grace Gatekeeper: None Scribe: Sandie Pike
Ron presented the draft of the 2001-2002 Continuous Improvement Plan. Team leaders are asked to go over the Plan with teams and give Ron any feedback.
The IMS staff voted to move to the Learning Improvement Calendar beginning next school year. Ron met with other corridor principals to look at start and end times and other logistics. Dates will be set for community informational meetings probably in mid-February.
Ron reported that the School Council Committee met. It was proposed that School Council meet once per month and the second meeting date would be used for a Team Leader Meeting. It was agreed that January 10 would be changed to a Team Leader Meeting and the next School Council Meeting would be January 31. There is only one meeting scheduled in February. February 14 will be a School Council Meeting. The committee also discussed bringing more structure to the meetings. They will bring additional proposals to School Council for approval.

ASB Report
Ann reported that there has been lots of positive feedback on the Mark Brown assembly. She has also contacted the Eastside Journal regarding the Adopt-A-Child program.
Feedback received from teams on the Buddy Link shows that staff would like to see what the program “looks like” before implementing it. They also feel that it may not be done school-wide.
Spirit Week is next week. Monday – Winter Warmth Day, Tuesday – Personal Injury Day, Wednesday – Dress Like an Adult Day, Thursday – Holiday Cartoon Character Day. It was noted that students may not use a “fake” injury to get out of participating in class.
The sixth grade social is Friday, December 14 from 2:30 to 4:00. ASB will sponsor the 7/8 grade evening dance on January 4.
Team Reports
6th Grade
Amy reported that the sixth grade team is concerned that some students may not want to participate in the Buddy Link Program and how this would be handled. They are also concerned that this is yet another thing being added to SLC.

David shared that the seventh grade team is also concerned about the Buddy Link Program – some students may be mature enough to buddy a sixth grader and some may need to have an eighth grade buddy.
8th Grade
Leah reported that the 8th grade enjoyed the field trip to see “Inspecting Carol” and the students were awesome.
