Issaquah Middle School Council Minutes
November 21, 2002
Minutes from the School Council Meeting on October
24 were presented and approved as submitted.
Leslie Nielsen was introduced as the new School Council Parent Volunteer and Sandie Pike accepted the position of Council Secretary.
Ron
reported that the Team Leaders were given the IMS Decision-Making Model at the
last Team Leaders meeting. They will
make necessary corrections and he will bring it to the next School Council meeting.
Ron
also reported that he spoke to the Science Team Leaders about the suggestion to
have a Science Fair. They did not feel
this was something they wanted to do, however, there is interest in putting on
a Spring Open House event.
New Business
The IMS Continuous
Improvement Plan is still being worked on.
Once it is in a draft form, Ron will bring it to School Council for
review.
Spring
Pictures by Lifetouch were discussed.
Sandie will schedule tentative dates and Team Leaders will discuss with
teams and bring feedback to the next School Council meeting.
Team Reports
6th Grade
Lorna reported that the 6th
grade team is looking at an integrated project with Math/Science and
Humanities, possibly a Household Hazardous Waste Project – February through
May.
7th Grade
None
8th Grade
Leah reported that the 8th
grade team is still discussing whether or not to have 8th Grade
Shadow Day. They are looking at an all 8th
grade field trip to the University of Washington School of Engineering Open House.

ASB Report
Ann
reported that the magazine sale brought in over $79,000.
We will be sponsoring
between 70 to 75 kids for the Adopt-A-Child program.
Friday, November 22 is
Apple Cup Challenge Day. Students and
staff are asked to dress in either Husky or Cougar colors and bring food for
the Issaquah Food Bank.
PTSA
Report
Mardi brought the PTSA Special Projects Grant Request
Forms. Sandie will have the forms for
any staff member interested in submitting a request. Forms were also given to Team Leaders to take
to their teams. PTSA will review the
grant requests twice per year.
The PTSA will provide the staff with a brunch on December
4.
Community
Center
The Community Center had 730 students at their last
dance. The next dance is scheduled for
December 13 at Beaver Lake Middle School.
This will be an all middle school dance and students must have their ASB
card to get in.
Ross asked staff members to consider nominating IMS
students to the Eastside Youth Hall of Fame.
He passed out nomination forms, which are due by January 17, 2003. Anyone can nominate a youth.

22-23 SLC Conferences
There was discussion about the lunch lines. Ron shared that he is looking at ways to
improve the situation such as the possibility of going to a three-lunch
schedule, reconfiguration of the lines, or adding time to the lunch periods. He will report on this at the next School
Council meeting.
The traffic and parking problem was discussed. Cars pulling through the bus lane are causing
a dangerous situation for students and other drivers. Ron will report on this at the next School
Council meeting.
