Old Business

Kurt Wieland responded for the 7th Grade Team to the concern of parents for the Community Service/Cultural Events Project.  The project was discussed and the team agreed to: 1) keep the school year as the timeline for completing the project; 2) uniformity in amount of community service required, all teachers will require 12 hours; 3) guidelines for the project will be handed out to students earlier, the second week of school; 4) teachers will continue to offer things that can be done at home; 5) one event per year of which a student is a participant will be allowed; 6) there will be opportunities within the school year to attend cultural events such as field trips; 7) many of the school events such as chorus and band concerts are free; 8) all teachers will continue to disallow sporting events; 9) babysitting will not be allowed as community service; 10) church-related activities will be allowed.  There was discussion on the pros and cons of this program.  Deed Chase offered help from the PTSA with anything they could do to support this project.  Ron suggested more communication such as doing an autodial, having teachers discuss at Curriculum Night and putting information on the website would help.
