Ongoing work:
1. History
We began Chapter
8 in the workbook on Thursday, investigating the life of Muhammad, the
founder of Islam. You should have filled in four workbook pages and
written one word from each section in Arabic, copied from its place
on the wall.
Your project with
Chapter 8 is putting together a
four-page book about the Prophet Muhammad's life,
using your workbook summary pages and vocabulary words. The pages need to be
decorated in the Arabic style, which is very different from medieval
European illuminated texts. The project was
due Tuesday, 11/17.
We are working our
Chapter 9 project this week-- you and your group are creating one piece of
an eight-piece Islamic star, which we will assemble on the back wall. Each
piece will represent a different aspect of the teachings of Islam, including
the Five Pillars. This project will be due
Friday, 11/20.
Presentations on your topic (Powerpoint preferred) will begin on Monday,
11/23. You were given two periods of library time for gathering
pictures and working on your Powerpoint show.
2.
Literature
Our current story is
"A Retrieved Reformation" by O. Henry by Friday, 11/20. You will
find it on pp. 226-236 in your lit. book. It is a GREAT story! Questions
have been handed out. There is one extended response and one extra credit
question. Due Monday, 11/30. This will be on Trimester
2 grades.
We worked through a worksheet on
capitalization rules--
you made corrections to sentences with mistakes relating to capitalizing
various words-- on Thursday and Friday. On Tuesday,
11/24, we will have a short test on the rules. You will need to make
corrections to five sentences, applying the rules to them. Submit a long
sentence or short paragraph of your own on Monday-- if it's selected for the
test, you can earn some extra credit.
Your overnight
assignment on Thursday was "Descriptive
Paragraphs." You were given five
dull, drab and unimaginative paragraphs on five different topics. Your
mission was to re-write the information in those paragraphs in a more
interesting, detailed and dynamic way. Use similes, metaphors, idioms and
onomatopoeia to liven up each paragraph.
Due Friday, 11/20.
3.
"Blood Red Horse"
The final assignment, #3, was due Thursday,
11/12. Books are due to be returned at this time. If you need to
keep the book to complete a late assignment, you may do so until
next week.

trimester- 20 A.R. points are
possible. Tests must be taken by
Monday, November 30th. Please take a test on
"Blood Red Horse"
as soon as possible!
4. Community

This is the year-long 7th grade project, which involves cultural
events, interview of a community service provider and 12 or more
hours of community service. Keep the directions in your notebook
all year. Extras are available on the social studies page. See Mr.
Wieland if you have any questions about the requirements for this
project. "Where to Care" packets are available for overnight

is on-stage this Friday and Saturday, 11/20-21, 7:00 PM. Perfect for your
