Elective classes have both 7th and 8th graders in them.

Please note that, while this site is updated daily, it is also a work in progress and is under construction. There may not be complete information on all of its pages.

All-School Write:

Packets went home to parents today concerning the up-coming March 19th IMS All-School Write. We will need parents willing to be trained in scoring essays to evaluate anonymous student papers. The last training sessions for parents in October were interrupted by the flu outbreak we had, so if you would like to pick up where you left off, or help us out as a new trainee, please see the info. packet for the training dates!  Thank you!

Parents:  As you will recall, the 7th grade teachers sent home a letter in October outlining our concerns with the lack of homework and class work completion in the first trimester. I continue to be concerned in the second trimester about the lack of effort and haphazard work completion in my classes and have had numerous conversations with all  the students, even those with the best grades, about "coasting" through the seventh grade. Nightly homework is not usually required in my humanities block, but your student should be bringing home assignments to complete several times a week, at least, and should be asked to produce proof of progress on on-going work for you. I update grades at least three times weekly, so you can be completely apprised about how your student is performing.  Many students are racking up a startling number of incompletes and zeroes in the grade book.

I am available after school Tuesdays and Thursdays, and occasionally on Wednesdays,  if your student needs extra help or a quiet, supervised work space.

Ongoing work:

Comparison-Contrast Essays have been returned and should be placed in your SSR portfolio.

1. Persuasive Writing

 A. Persuasive Letter, Step One

Your prompt:  The PE department is going to cut one unit next year. Persuade your current PE teacher which unit he or she should cut. You are working on a hook, further information and a thesis statement in your introductory paragraph. Due on Tuesday, 3/16. Write on the worksheet, please.

B. Persuasive Letter, Step Two

Skeleton of paragraphs 2-5. Directions given in class on Thursday-- you had 25 minutes of work time to complete. Due Monday, 3/22.

2. Literature

Read Bill Cosby and Dave Barry essays on pp. 494-504 in the
