WEB - Where Everybody Belongs... At Issaquah Middle School we believe that everybody belongs! WEB, an acronym for Where Everybody Belongs, is a middle school transition program in its third year of existence at IMS. The structure of the WEB program guides 6th graders to academic and social success by reducing the initial challenges of entering middle school. WEB helps create an environment where 6th graders feel cared for and supported by establishing an atmosphere free of bullying, intimidation and fear and replacing it with support, connection and a sense of comfort and belonging. With WEB, students help students succeed by using older students as peer mentors for the 6th graders. WEB Leaders are members of the 8th grade class who go through extensive training to become positive role models, motivators and teachers. Before school started on August 25th, sixth-graders and new students were welcomed at WEB Orientation. After a spirited, interactive general assembly the WEB Leaders led their group of 6th graders through a series of fun, positive activities designed to help them get to know each other as well as learn important campus information. These activities were intended to spark discussion and thoughts regarding upcoming responsibilities, choices and challenges in middle school. WEB continues throughout the year by providing a variety of Academic and Social follow up activities for 6th graders to participate in. If your child was unable to attend the WEB orientation in August, never fear! All 6th graders are included in WEB and have been placed in a WEB group. Parents please stay tuned for upcoming 6th grade WEB activities! Please contact our WEB Coordinators Michelle Pickard or Michelle Garlatz, if you are interested in volunteering or have any questions.
