Performance Groups Available
Beginning Band (Period 4)
This
class is offered to students who are interested in learning a band instrument.
The first trimester begins with the option of learning four instruments (Flute,
Clarinet, Trumpet and Trombone). After completing the first trimester, there is
the option of learning other instruments.
This class will also includes aspects of the
structure of music.
Intermediate Band (Period 7)
This class requires the band student
to have at least one year of experience with a band instrument. The band spends
the year working on band literature as well as improving instrument skills.
Concert Band (Period 6)
This group is an audition-only group. This ensemble
concentrates on music for the advanced middle school musician. The Concert Band
performs at concerts as well as band festivals through out the year. In this
band we will perform concert literature and perform several times during the
year.
Jazz Band (after school rehearsals)
This group will offer the opportunity for students to
explore the world of jazz. This group requires the student to attend each
rehearsal and have a good time playing interesting music. The student is also
required to purchase a book (that information will be available at the first
rehearsal).

Please mark these dates in your calendar now so that
conflicts can be avoided. Attendance is required, no make up is possible.

Classroom Rules
Food
and drink (except water) are not allowed in the band room. This is a building
policy.
Students and teachers will treat
each other with mutual respect and courtesy.
School equipment and property will
be treated carefully and with respect. Replacement and/or repair of damaged
items will be the responsibility of the person(s) who caused the damage.
Remember, school equipment must be maintained for many years to come and is
usually used by many more people than yourself.
Students
will bring all necessary materials/equipment to every class, rehearsal and
performance (ex. Music, instrument, pencil, uniform, etc.)
Grading Policy
The
factors that determine your progress as a musician are reached through three
areas of assessment. These areas are the following: Performances,
Assignments/Tests, Classroom Attendance and Participation.
Attendance/Tardy Policy
The
policy in the student handbook will be enforced.
District Transportation Policy (Day Trips)
For field trips over 10 miles
away and/or more than two hours duration:
Students
will travel on school-sponsored transportation only.
Students
may travel with a parent(s) with prior permission from instructor and
principal.
No
student will be allowed to travel with other students, other parents or drive
themselves.
For field trips within 10 miles and/or less than two hours duration:
Students
will use school-sponsored transportation if it is provided
Students
may provide their own transportation with instructor’s approval and appropriate
permission/liability form completed
