The “Four Olds” due 4/29

What were the “Four Olds”?  Why do you think Mao wanted people to “destroy the Four Olds”?

bulletMake a table in Microsoft Word or make a similar table by hand.  At the top of four columns put the category of each of the “Four Olds” In each column list at least four (4) items from the book Red Scarf Girl that would fall under each heading. The column headings are difficult to distinguish between. Column placement will be graded easily; however, any repeats either between columns and/or tables will be marked wrong.
bulletMake a second table below the last.  Again label the four columns at the top with the categories of the “Four Olds”.  What are some of the “olds” in United States culture that Mao and his followers would have destroyed in our culture? List at least four items in each category.
bulletLabel the two tables with appropriate headings.
bulletAnswer the question:  How would your life be different without the “olds” in our culture?  Be specific in your answer.  Use examples when necessary.
